Özet:

The most intellectually productive periods of societies are those that correspond to periods of rapid social change. For Turkish society, the last period of the Ottoman Empire was such a period. In a period when the society and the institutions of the state were bleeding, many Turkish intellectuals produced and shared solutions within the framework of their own world of thought. Abdullah Cevdet, as a prominent representative of the Westernist movement, expressed his thoughts on many issues and endeavoured to guide the society in his own way. This study aims to analyse Abdullah Cevdets evaluations of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the reforms he carried out, especially those who saw the Republican regime as a recipe for salvation for Turkish society. Although nearly a century has passed, it can be stated that these evaluations are still relevant today. This study employed a documentation method, focusing on Abdullah Cevdets İçtihad Magazine, where Abdullah Cevdet shared his ideas and thoughts, and analyses and evaluations were then conducted. The conclusion reached is that Abdullah Cevdet provided strong intellectual support to the socialisation of the Republican reforms.
