Özet:

The effects of industrialization and capitalism on trade have affected the tradesmen trying to maintain the Ahi traditions in many respects. In the rapidly developing and transforming global world, the adoption of the principles and values of ahilik by tradesmen and traders is an issue worthy of discussion. From this point of view, the study deals with the level of adoption of the ahi tradition, which is not only in commercial life but also in the organization of society based on trust, justice, rights and equality, by todays tradesmen and its changing and transforming aspects. In this study, the level of knowledge, adoption and representation of the tradesmen in Denizli Kaleiçi Demirciler Bazaar about the ahilik tradition, how the ahilik tradition is maintained by todays tradesmen, and what are the changing and transforming aspects are discussed in this study. The sample group of the study was limited to the tradesmen of Kaleiçi Demirciler bazaar, which continues the traditional patterns of Denizli. Based on qualitative research design, this study tried to understand the subject with a phenomenological approach. Using in-depth interview technique, interviews were conducted with 20 people working as tradesmen in Denizli Kaleiçi Demirciler Bazaar. According to the findings of the research, the development of technology and industrialization, the replacement of human production with mechanization and mass production has caused the tradesmen to lose their economic power. With education coming to the forefront, the training of the young population by the tradesmen apprentice- journeyman tradition was seen as a waste of time and the transfer of the profession to the next generation caused the ahi tradition to lose its importance over time. The change in production relations, technological development that determines the competition between artisans and the emergence of different dynamics have made it difficult to maintain traditional values.
