Özet:

Numerous ornamented architectural elements have been unearthed through archaeological excavations at Şarhöyük Dorylaion in ancient Phrygia. These figurative marble ornaments were discovered in various areas of the mound at different chronological intervals, with a notable concentration in the designated church area. The prevailing belief is that these extensively found fragments were deliberately fragmented to attain their current state. Prominent examples within the documented findings encompass facing panels, embellished elements from column capitals, unidentified figurative objects, sculptures reliefs?, mortaria, ambotemplon fragments, a plaque depicting an agonistic prize crown, and decorative elements from a sarcophagus. The meticulously crafted architectural and other fragments exhibit distinct formal characteristics. A thorough stylistic analysis of these features has yielded significant insights into the Byzantine layer identified on the mound. This study presents crucial reflections on the Late Antique period of the city, with a specific focus on the preserved marble fragments within the Şarhöyük Research Laboratory. A noteworthy outcome of the study is the dating of a recognized church presence on the mound and the identification of its decorative elements.
