Özet:

Atma turku is a kind of folk song which is sung extemporally in entertainments

like wedding, engagement, henna night, gala, festival etc. in Eastern Black

Sea region in our country. This tradition is common among men and women

who are called poets or express themselves in the form of poetry in this region.

When the tradition of atma turku is considered relationships especially between

men-women, father and son, daughter-in law and father-in law, daughter-in law

and mother-in law are discussed intensively. Daughter-in law -mother-in law

relationship is one of the most mentioned subjects in this tradition. This subject

is touched upon a lot in atma turkus. In this performance daughter-in law and

mother-in law bicker with poetry or poets bicker by pretending like daughter-in

law and mother-in law.

In this study conflict between daughter-in law and mother-in law is touched

upon by giving examples of atma turku and it is also shortly discussed why

poets need to masquerade of daughter-in law and mother-in law. As a consequence

the most common subjects of the conflict between daughter-in law and

mother-in law and how they try to overtower each other are emphasized.
