Özet:

Surgical operations are one of the critical indicators of performance in the health system. The purpose of the study is to find out the impact of the profession of physicianship on surgical interventions in big and small provinces. In the research, factors affecting the surgery indicator are investigated using the panel data analysis method. The study examines the data from Türkiyes 30 big and 51 small provinces between 2012-2019. In big and small provinces, the number of specialist physicians, outpatient visits, other health personnel and the average day of stay affect the number of surgeries positively, while the general practitioner indicator affects the number of surgeries negatively. It is deduced that the number of general practitioners considerably decreases the surgery indicator if the number of specialists substantially increases the surgery rate in big and small provinces. In addition, the number of specialists in big provinces have raised the rate of surgery much more than in small provinces. Nevertheless, the number of general practitioners reduces the rate of surgery more in big provinces than in small provinces. General physicians have a critical role in the preventive health services, early diagnosis of diseases, prevention and effective management of diseases. Through preventive medicine, early and effective interventions can halt the progression of diseases or eradicate them, thus minimizing the need for operation. It is essential to ensure equal health investments and opportunities without regard to the development levels of the provinces in terms of access to health services, and at the same time, it is necessary to make the society recognize that preventive medicine is an important level in improving public health.
