Özet:

This study aims to investigate personal preparedness and determine to predictors of personal preparedness, especially the effect of risk perception among the staff working at a university. This cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted with 236 people in April 2023, two months after the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. In addition to a socio-demographic survey form an individual disaster preparedness form and a disaster risk perception form prepared by the researcher, were used as data collection tools. Findings show that individuals disaster risk perceptions especially earthquake risk perception are very high after the earthquake mean:11.63.1. However, although 92 of the participants stated that there was a positive change in their disaster preparedness behaviors after the earthquakes, individual preparedness for disasters was found to be low mean:5.32.5 Also, only 28 of the participants stated that they stetted to heavy objects, 31.8 had an emergency kit, and 36.4 knew the emergency meeting place. In addition, approximately three-quarters of the participants evaluated their disaster preparedness as definitely not ready or not ready. In the multivariate linear regression analysis, homeowners β0.125, disaster experience β0.148, working in a disaster β0.133, and received disaster training β0.148, self-report sufficient disaster knowledge β317 and stating that there was a moderatevery positive change in disaster preparedness behaviors after the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes β0.176 were found predictors of personal disaster preparedness. No relationship was found between the disaster risk perception score and individual preparedness score. In conclusion, Findings reveal that there is a need for comprehensive practices to increase the personal preparedness of society.
