Özet:

While Islamism made a big attack in Turkey since the 1980s, the most serious and heated debates took place in the Islamist journals. During this period, one of the most prominent of the journals was İktibas Joournal, published by Ercümend Özkan. Özkan was publicly known in 1967 as the Turkey executive of a Jordanian radical Islamist organization called Hizbüt Tahrir. Özkan pointed to the West and the USA as the greatest danger, not communism, when Turkish Islamism existed in the 1960s, largely as a part of the anti-communist nationalist-sacred right wing. He emphasized the necessity of returning to self-resources such as the Quran and Sunnah against the traditional understanding of Islam, and clearly showed that he desired an Islamic state structure. With these aspects, he was known as an original and contradictory figure. Although he later parted ways with the Hizbut Tahrir organization, he always maintained his radical Islamist line The İktibas Journal, published in the 1980s, with quotations from national and international publications, enabled its readers to be aware of events taking place in different parts of the world in an environment where communication opportunities were extremely limited. Özkan, emphasizing that Islam is misunderstood and mislived, tried to lead Muslims living in Turkey to a correct understanding of Islam. While many Islamist actors, who shared the radical Islamist line with Özkan and İktibas in the 1980s, thought about and partially adopted concepts such as multiculturalism, democracy, and secularism in the 1990s, both with the electoral successes of the Welfare Party and the developments in Turkey and the world conjuncture, Özkan and İktibas Magazine didnt change its line. In this study, through literature review and text analysis, the original position of Ercümend Özkan and where İktibas Journal stood in the abundance of Islamist journals in the 1980s and what kind of publishing policy it followed were discussed.
