Özet:

Land uses change over time depending on the needs of the increasing population. The most important change is that existing agricultural lands are used for purposes other than agricultural purposes. While agricultural lands are being taken out of agriculture due to needs such as shelter, another important need of this population, nutrition, is being jeopardized. The Çukurova International Airport CIA, which is the subject of this study, is also considered within this scope. In this study, the impact of the ÇUH established within the borders of Tarsus district of Mersin province in the Çukurova Region of Turkey on agricultural lands was examined. Considering the location and agricultural potential of the ÇUH established in the Çukurova Plain, which is the most fertile plain in Turkey, an area with absolute agricultural land qualifications within the framework of the Soil Protection and Land Use Law No. 5403 has been irreversibly degraded. In the study, the temporal and current situation before the construction of the airport was evaluated with satellite images. An important area where agricultural production had been carried out for years before, was taken out of agriculture with the construction of the airport. The area includes Arıklı, Mürsel, Arpacı and Çanakçı series. All series have a deep soil structure and high productivity. With the establishment of ÇUH, approximately 7663 acres of fertile agricultural land and soil were sealed with concrete. In the study, attention was drawn to the misuse of agricultural lands, especially at the airport, and some suggestions were made.
