Özet:

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the effect of anesthesia type applied in cesarean section on demographic characteristics, postpartum comfort and pain belief. Method: The sample of the descriptive study consisted of 241 women, including 121 women who underwent cesarean section under spinal anesthesia and 120 women who underwent cesarean section under general anesthesia in a hospital which is located Anatolian side of Istanbul between January and March 2021. Research data were obtained with Personal Information Form, Postpartum Comfort Scale and Pain Beliefs Scale. Number and percentage calculations, Mann Whitney U test, t test and spearman correlation analysis were used to evaluate the data. Results: It was determined that there was no significant difference between the demographic characteristics of the participants according to the anesthesia type, and the groups were similar to each other. The total pain belief scores of women who underwent cesarean section with general anesthesia were higher than those who underwent spinal anesthesia at the postpartum 24 and 48 hours; comfort levels were found to be lower p0,05. It was determined that there was a weak negative correlation between womens pain beliefs and comfort levels at the 24th and 48th hours postpartum p0,05. As womens belief in pain increases, their postpartum comfort level decreases. Usage in Practice: The type of anesthesia that increases the comfort level will also have a positive effect on pain belief. If women can effectively control their pain in the postpartum period, their comfort level will increase accordingly.
