Özet:

Violence refers to acts that result in physical, sexual, economic, or psychological harm to an individual. Such incidents have existed not only in contemporary times but also throughout history. The perpetration of all forms of violent behavior and attitudes against women has led them to seek justice by appealing to the courts. In the Ottoman Empire, the Sharia Courtsaccessible to individuals from all social stratawere responsible for adjudicating a wide range of cases, including marriage, divorce, debt and credit relations, guardianship appointments, administrative assignments, tax collection, theft, slander, murder, as well as incidents of violence against women. The proceedings of these cases were recorded by scribes in the Sharia court registers. The cases of violence against women documented in these records provide valuable data on the causes and consequences of such events in the period under study. It is therefore possible to analyze and evaluate the physical, sexual, economic, and psychological violence experienced by women in Ottoman society through the data found in these legal records.
