Özet:

The musical, lyrical and intellectual aspects of Karol Szymanowskis Op.42 Songs of an Infatuated Muezzin Pieśni Muezina Szalonego constitute the subject of this article. Unawareness of relationship between Eastern-Islamic influences and reference materials of East-Islam; musical structure components that support the lyrics of the piece was identified as the problem. Data obtained from this study is considered to enrich the intellectual worlds of composers. In this context, the aim of the study is analyzing and establishing the philosophical background of the piece, the characteristics in lyrics and music, lyrical-musical relationship, and its musical structure. Document review technique, a qualitative research method, is used in this study. By analyzing data gathered through the document review technique, the notation and sound recordings of the piece, the prominent elements of the piece at the lyrical and musical levels conceptual, interval, harmonical, etc. were presented. Examination demonstrated that Szymanowski applied his own intuitions and impressions instead of the Eastern-Islamic resources, only expressions that could be associated with Eastern-Islamic culture were Allahuekber, bismillah, muezzin. The idea of creating musical atmosphere that supports expression and emotionsfeelings was observed, and the images regarding the East-Islam were reflected via melodic lines where minor or augmented seconds dominate.
