The concept of homo ludens, introduced by the Dutch historian and cultural theorist Johan Huizinga, means a person who plays. In the researchers study titled Homo Ludens: A Study of The Play-Element in Culture 1938, it is explained that homo ludens plays an important role in the cultural development of humanity, the definition of the play is made in detail and the importance of the play is revealed. In line with Huizingas findings about the play, it turns out that the activities of the noble culture in Russia in the first half of the 19th century, which is considered as Pushkins Russia, were born from play and that duel and ball, which were an important part of the daily life of the noble, had characteristics of a play. In this context, the important noble characters of the period are studied: Chatsky, the hero of Alexandr Sergeyevich Griboyedovs work titled Woe from Wit Gore ot uma, Onegin in Alexandr Sergeyevich Pushkins Eugene Onegin, and Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontovs A Hero of Our Time Geroy nashego vremeni Pechorin are discussed as homo ludens and the relationship of these heroes with duel and ball is examined. The hermeneutics technique is used to analyse. The aim of the study is to explain Huizingas concept of homo ludens within the cultural framework of Pushkins Russia through literary heroes who are representatives of the period. In the study, it is revealed that the heroes considered as homo ludens continue their tradition of playing games and that this tradition is an important turning point in their personal destinies, and the importance of homo ludens in culture is re-emphasized.
