Özet:

The primary objective of this study is to highlight the role and contribution of Established on the instructions of Atatürk, Anadolu Agency A.A. and some publications in Istanbul, alongside local newspapers in Anatolia, within the National Struggle strategies. Furthermore, an additional noteworthy element pertains to the interviews that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk conducted with foreign press outlets during the National Struggle. In this context, the secondary objective of the study is to examine the impact of Atatürks actions in this regard. In the war against Western occupying forces, Atatürk effectively influenced the narrative by conveying the justification for the Ankara governments actions and the national struggle to Western media outlets, thereby actively shaping the discourse himself. The title set for the third and final main aim of the study is to scrutinize the activities of the Istanbul press by analyzing Atatürks interviews with their outlets. This will shed light on the fragmented organizational structure and censorship measures within the Istanbul media and illustrate how Atatürks interactions with the Istanbul media played a role in advancing the holistic press strategies of the Turkish national movement. These three main objectives also reveal the holistic nature of the strategies pursued. It is evident that the impact, reaction and perception generated among all stakeholders by each successive action were meticulously designed bu Atatürk himself. In this regard, it will also be evaluated that Atatürks genius was not confied solely to the military sphere; rather, he possedded exceptional competence in diplomacy, politics and communication, demonstrating remarkable judgement and foresight. Essentially, this study underscores the significant role of the press in shaping National Struggle strategies and emphasizes the importance of concepts such as informing the public, legitimizing, generating consent, and controlling messages, which are pivotal in conventional warfares. It showcases the success of the Turkish War of Independence by drawing attention to these aspects. The study was conducted using the literature review technique, one of the qualitative research methods. The findings are analyzed in the context of communication theories, and their adaptation to policies implemented in a planned and systematic manner and their consequences are analyzed also.
