Özet:

This article focuses on the harbecis, a special law enforcement force in the Ottoman Empire, who were in the retinue of the Muhzır Agha. The harbecis were so named because they carried a silver harbe in their hands. On their backs they wore a tiger-skin garment. During the state ceremonies, they would participate in the protocol by being next to Muhzır Aga. In Istanbul, they were located in the centre of the Janissary Centre and travelled with the Janissary Agha. In addition, in the process of transferring people who were involved in crimes in the Ottoman administration and whose sentences were finalised after they were sentenced to nafy, imprisonment for murder and imprisonment for imprisonment for murder, harbecis were assigned by the Divan-ı Hümayesi with a sergeants intermediary. After delivering the criminals to the fortresses where the offences were committed, they would return to Istanbul with the document they received from the castles captain. Harbeciler also took part in the assignment of state officials and the transport of prisoners captured in wars, and they were given per diems and horses. In 1826, after the abolition of the Janissary Corps, the cadet corps was abolished and the Kavas Organisation was established in their place. In this study, which aims to provide information about the mission of the cadet corps within the state, we will evaluate the information we have obtained from Ottoman archive documents and research works on the cadet corps, their duties and the crimes in which they were involved.
