Özet:

Image is a concept that has gained a place in all disciplines gathered under the umbrella term of design. The design image is a phenomenon that first appears and is created in the designers mind in the early stage of production. It is expressed in the physical world through the selected transfer method. One of these transfer methods is sketching. Sketching is a subjective experience, a form of creative expression, and a visual thinking tool, where the designer is in touch with herhis inner world. It is a form of creation with different layers that can be associated with the main branches of art, painting, and architecture. It is a mental tool that is a part of the design act and processes in the transfer of the designers perception, knowledge, and experience. Sketching shows new expansions due to the representation tools developed under the influence of technology. The intellectual processes of the design image are also affected by this situation. The study tries to understand the effects, possibilities, limitations, and opportunities created by the developments in sketching. It examines the dialogue of the design image with representation and its position in the act of design in the scope of differing representation methods. The research begins with an overview of the relationship between representation, image, and sketch in design. It continues this relationship by customizing it in the context of the outputs produced by the traditional and current approaches. It evaluates the production modes of representation with a qualitative content analysis approach within the framework of the sketch produced by line and pixel-based sketch produced by the words. As a result of the study, it is seen that the developments that have taken place not only provide useful results such as speed and variation production to the designer, but also interfere with the way the image is produced, and the implicit components of the design are ignored. While the reality is idealized, the ambiguity that triggers creativity and meaning production remains in the background, and the rational guidance of the hand and mind-eye coordination changes due to this effect. The expectation is that the study will contribute to research on the transformation of representation in art and design as a result of digitization.
