Özet:

Tourism provides interaction between local residents and people with different characteristics- such as ethnicity, language, religion and culture-from different cities, regions, or countries. Although this interaction impacts both sides due to its nature, it primally leads to changes in the social, cultural and political values and structure of the local community. Consequently, there are various theories in the literature regarding tourism as a social change agent-factor. Taking these theories into account, this study examines the relationship between tourism development and the social, cultural, and political changes experienced by local communities, focusing on political preferences. For this purpose, changes in the voting behavior or preferences of residents in selected tourism regions were analyzed over time. Tourism in Turkey began to develop in its early period prior to 1980 and has since reached a significant level of maturity, attracting both domestic tourists- tourism and international tourists-tourism; Various cities and districts of Turkey Antalya: Alanya-Manavgat-Kaş; Nevşehir: Ürgüp-Avanos-Derinkuyu; Muğla: Bodrum-Marmaris-Fethiye, known for both coastal and cultural tourism, were selected as research areas. The study analyzed the results of the parliamentary general elections held between 1983 and 2023events that directly reflect political preferences- in three provinces and nine districts within these regions. The study investigated whether there was a significant change over the past40 years in the voting behavior of the local population in these destinations. The findings suggest that, while tourism development in certain areas, such as Marmaris and Bodrum, has partially influenced political preferences, other destinations have not experienced significant changes in this regard.
