Özet:

It is an important question worth investigating how Chechens, who reacted strongly to the Russian political and cultural hegemonic efforts, developed a relationship with the inhabitants and political system in Türkiye where highly nationalist policies were implemented after their immigration to Anatolia, and how and why this relationship differs from the harsh reactions they showed to the Russians. In this context, the purpose of this particular study is to investigate the historical and social dynamics of individuals with Chechen ethnic identity who came to Turkey through immigration and lived in settlements for generations, and to question how they built their identities in Turkey. In addition to historical data, in-depth interviews with 25 Chechens living in Çardak town of Kahramanmaraş were used in the research. This study concludes that the Chechen experience in Turkey exemplifies a type of relationship called voluntary identity.
