Özet:

In the history of the Republic of Turkey, the period 1923-1950 constitutes an important period of one-party rule. The phenomenon of coalition governments became one of the most important issues in political life after the 1961 elections. During the 1961-1980 period, which was characterized by coalition governments, Süleyman Demirel remained in power for a long time as the prime minister of the AP both during the single party and coalition governments. Süleyman Demirels sixth government, which was also a coalition-based minority government, was the last democratic government formed before the military coup of September 12, 1980. During this period, when anarchy and terrorism were at their peak in Turkeys domestic politics and the January 24 Decisions were taken economically, important developments took place in foreign policy. During this period, when a multifaceted foreign policy was pursued, developments in the Middle East increased Turkeys strategic importance. In addition to the Middle East and the Islamic world, as well as diplomatic relations with Greece and the United States, the West has always had a higher priority in foreign policy. While relations with the West continued primarily within the EEC, especially in economic terms, relations with NATO continued intensively in military terms. Turkeys righteousness was defended as a national cause in problems with Greece such as the Cyprus problem and the Aegean Islands. Due to the nationalnational nature of the problems, foreign policy has been the least conflict-prone area in government-opposition relations.
