Özet:

The concept of evil is a phenomenon whose existence has been interpreted in different ways by thinkers for thousands of years. Evil, which appears in different forms from society to society, from belief systems to geographies, is evaluated in various sub-categories depending on the visibility of its existence. The reflections of evil, which are titled as physical, metaphysical, moral and cosmic evil, are very important for human beings in understanding and interpreting life. The prominent definition of moral evil as a willed being harming other living beings in every dimension, comes to the fore in the understanding and interpretation of the characters called evil in literary texts. The good and evil that exist in the novel world also provides information about real life. Sami Paşazâde Sezai is one of the important writers of the Tanzimat period novel. Especially in his novel Sergüzeşt, he draws attention with his focus on the theme of captivity, which existed in the social life of his time. The behavior that Dilber, the main character of the novel, is subjected to in the series of events from her captivity to her death is an important work in terms of showing the emergence and reflections of evil in social life. In this study, we will, first focus on the concept of evil, and then try to examine the reflections of moral evil in the novel Sergüzeşt.
