Özet:

Cenab Şahabeddin 1870-1934, a pioneering figure in contemporary Turkish poetry, contributed significant works to Turkish literature during nearly four decades of poetic endeavor and offered notable advances in both form and subject. Cenab Şahabeddin, who distanced his work from external reality, restricted the themes of his poetry to a select few. One of these is love. The poet selected love as a motif in over fifty percent of his poetic works. This quantitative buildup also possesses chronological integrity. He composed love poetry throughout his entire literary career. In addressing this issue, Cenab Şahabeddin consistently incorporates the figurative components of classical Turkish poetry. He embraces a novel perspective, perceiving love not as a unilateral experience but as a dynamic interaction between two individuals, attributing distinct qualities to both the lover and the beloved. The present study comprised three principal headings. Based on the data derived from the poems, love was initially analyzed from multiple perspectives, followed by an assessment of the two principal figures who embody love: the lover and the beloved, both appraised for their distinct attributes. The study also analyzed the theme of love in Cenab Şahabeddins poetry for the first time using a chronological and categorized approach, intending to offer new insights about the poet. The study contended that, contrary to the prevailing belief that the poets works mirror his personal emotions and experiences, the lovers depicted in his love-themed poems are fictional.
