Özet:

The history of clothing is as old as human history. The process of cloth making is shaped by change over time. In the early periods, people made use of various materials to cover at least the private parts of their bodies, and they made cloth-like materials. The next step in clothing is covering, which arises from the need for people to protect their bodies against climatic conditions. In this direction, they produced clothes from various plant fibers, fabrics, felt, leather, cotton, and any other equivalent material-possible clothing. With the advancement of time and knowledge, clothing transformed into a cultural and economic reflection of people. Since culture is an important garment, people can reflect their own culture by using clothing as a visual and silent language; they can send messages on political, economic, cultural issues. Thus, Ottoman womens choice of clothing were influenced by economic and cultural reasons as well as religious rituals. Üsküdar court records from the late 16th to the 17th centuries - in particular 10 registers covering the period from 1596-1603, were consulted to answer questions, like what factors influenced womens clothing in the classical period Ottoman society; which issues they paid attention to in their clothing and outfit;, and what they preferred in terms of the materials used and the quality of clothing.
