Özet:

Human beings, who are described as ashraf al-makhluqat the most honorable of creation, have also been designated in Islamic theology as the khulafā vicegerents of God on earth. Endowed with the blessings of reason, free will, and the ability to reflect, human beings have been sent various prophets to prevent them from deviating from truth and righteousness. Despite their honored status, these beings have at times listened to the divine revelation conveyed to them, while at other times they have turned away and rebelled. As a culmination of this process, the final prophet, Muhammad pbuh, and the final divine book, the Quran, were sent. The Prophet Muhammad pbuh fulfilled his prophetic mission over a period of twenty-three years, embodying the teachings of the Quran in his life and explaining its meanings through his hadiths. The Sahabah Companions learned extensively from him, were honored by his presence, and thus attained the praise of Almighty God. After the Prophets passing, the Sahabah became an important source of guidance, transmitting what they had heard and witnessed from him. However, following the martyrdom of Caliph Uthmān may Allah be pleased with him, seeds of division referred to as fitnah were sown among the Muslim community, undermining the unity of the ummah. Adversaries of Islam, such as ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sabaʾ and his followers, played a significant role in deepening this discord. As a consequence of this fitnah, numerous sects emerged, many of which fabricated hadiths in an effort to attract followers. In response, the Sahabah, the Followers Tābiʿūn, and the Followers of the Followers Taba al-Tābiīn took various measures to preserve the authenticity of hadiths in the face of such turmoil. They initiated the practice of scrutinizing isnāds chains of transmission, which gradually evolved into a formal scholarly discipline. They established criteria for integrity adālah and precision ḍabt, applied these standards to transmitters, and thereby developed the science of al-jarḥ wa al-taʿdīl impugnment and validation. Moreover, they compiled authentic hadiths into comprehensive and systematically arranged collections, ensuring their more reliable preservation. Both the Quran and the hadiths contain extensive discussions on fitnah and its various forms. Numerous hadith compilations include dedicated chapters on the subject, citing a significant number of related narrations.
