Özet:

Like in many parts of the world, the subject of conspiracy theories has increasingly become a popular field of research in Turkey. However, studies conducted in Turkey inadequately address the conspiracy theories that arise, particularly in the aftermath of societal events. Yet, conspiracy theories have the propensity to rapidly disseminate following undesired or unforeseen incidents. Based on this backdrop, the present study delves into the events that unfolded in Kahramanmaraş in 1978, known as the Maraş Massacre. The objective of this research is to unveil the penetration of conspiracy discourse into different political factions. To this end, 89 distinct parliamentary transcripts from the year 2008 onwards were subjected to content analysis utilizing the MAXQDA program. The analysis outcomes revealed that speeches pertaining to the Maraş Massacre resonated significantly within the public sphere, capable of influencing the perspectives of ordinary individuals as shaped by MPs Members of Parliament. It was discerned that various groups were implicated in relation to the Maraş events, with accusations sometimes directed at external powers and at other times at collaborators of external powers. The research findings indicate that left-wing parties raised the issue of the Maraş events more prominently compared to their right-wing counterparts, while the discourse of external powers found acceptance across both political spectrums. Furthermore, it was observed that left-wing MPs tended to label right-wing individuals as conspirators in these events, while right-wing MPs reciprocated by identifying left-wing individuals as conspirators. Notably, MPs exhibited the propensity to attribute conspiracy theories to entities such as the USA, NATO, the Turkish Armed Forces TSK, the National Intelligence Organization MİT, the Counter-Guerrilla, deep state, ülkücüler right-wing nationalists, and Alevites left-wing religious minority.
