Özet:

This study aims to evaluate the social structure of the Jāhiliyya Period through the lens of Ibn Khalduns ideas. This study employs a literature review method to analyze the social structure of the Jāhiliyya Period sociologically through Ibn Khalduns Kitab al-Ibar. The analysis draws on the Muqaddimah, the introductory section of Kitab al-Ibar, and the second chapter, which includes accounts of the Prophets life sīrah. In Ibn Khalduns thought, key concepts such as asabiyyah group solidarity, along with the foundational notions of bedouin nomadic life and hadarī settled life, are central to understanding the social structure of the Jāhiliyya Period. The sīrah accounts also provide examples from the daily lives of Jāhiliyya society, which was built on the principle of asabiyyah. Asabiyyah served as a mechanism to restore order within the fragmented and disorganized societal structure of the Jāhiliyya Period. In a region with limited resources, asabiyyah also kept alive the spirit of struggle, enabling individuals to pursue their desires and goals. The social order shaped by asabiyyah initially manifested in the bedouin way of life, later transitioning to the hadarī stage. In conclusion, the concepts of Jāhiliyya and asabiyyah hold significant importance in Ibn Khalduns theory of social change and civilization. The Jāhiliyya Period represents the cultural and social order of pre-Islamic Arab societies, while asabiyyah symbolizes tribal solidarity and the social bonds among individuals. By linking these two concepts, Ibn Khaldun used them to explain the processes of societal rise and decline.
