Özet:

The main purpose of this study is to approach the occupation discourse generated by European-based media outlets in the Russian-Ukraine conflict, which started on 24 February, 2022 from a critical perspective. The study included the harsh sanctions imposed on Russian artists, athletes and directors by countries claiming that Russia had occupied Ukraine and reviewed specific statements reflected on social media immediately after via critical discourse analysis method. During a press conference organized on 29 April 2022, Pentagon spokesperson John Kirbys statement implying that an opposite approach would contradict ethics and morality while presenting the conflict with occupation discourse provided a basis for critically addressing ethics. The study not only aimed to distinguish the concepts of ethics and morality based on the views of Kant and Hegel, but also included views that argued that these philosophers had built some of their theories with a Euro-centralist and, at times, a racist point of view. The study questioned the current position of Euro-centralist and racist approaches based on former US President George Bushs blunder during a program that Iraq was occupied instead of Ukraine and the former Deputy Attorney General of Ukraine David Sakvarelidzes statements that he felt sorry for the Ukrainians who died during the conflict just because they were blue-eyed and blond-haired Europeans, which were chosen via purposeful sampling. The study concluded that specific European countries, primarily the USA and UK generated the discourse that Russia had occupied Ukraine with a political reflex rather than an ethical attitude that cares about human life.
