Özet:

Technological developments, increasing welfare levels, an increasingly crowded population and consumption all cause negative pressures on the environment. In addition, the problem of effective, responsible and sustainable treatment of waste is more important than ever. Therefore, the demands for sustainable production and consumption strategies are increasing in order to prevent further depletion of resources. In this framework, zero waste management is a major focus point of sustainable environmental policies. Zero waste management is defined as the prevention and elimination of waste production, the extraction and utilization of resources or energy from waste, and the prevention of waste in order to protect nature and humans. The aim of this study, conducted under this framework, is to investigate the zero waste management efficiency of Turkeys thirty metropolitan cities. Most metropolitan cities are not efficient in all models, according to DEA evaluations including three input and two output variables. As a result, recommendations were made to increase local governments waste processing capacity, employ qualified experts, collaborate with all local and central stakeholder management units to achieve zero waste, train stakeholders, effectively apply legislation, and classify domestic waste.
