Özet:

Toys have had the opportunity to spread to a wide area by creating diversifications within the cultures living in the world. Kites, which have the qualification of being one of the toys that exemplify this situation, have local and universal qualities. Kites, which exhibit a structure open to development, are shaped according to the imagination and aesthetic understanding of the maker. The techniques used in the construction phase, the colors and patterns used in the outer coating parts, and the differences in patterns allow this toy to gain a dynamic structure. Appealing to adults as well as children, this toy brings together people with different characteristics regardless of gender. These features of kites provide social cohesion by enabling the organization of kite festivals, kite convivals and kite competitions, which constitute an important part of folk entertainment. The museums, workshops, exhibitions and teams formed around kites also reveal the cultural dimension of kites. Üsküdar Belediyesi Mehmet Naci Aköz Kite Museum, which is the only kite museum established in Turkey, draws attention in this context. This museum, which has been hosting kite models collected from different geographies since 1986, is evaluated from different perspectives using the field research method. Supported by the literature review technique, the study sheds light on the practices, beliefs and activities that occur around by identifying with a particular day. It also draws attention to its variations in Turkish culture and its reflections in different cultures.
