Özet:

Objective: Numerous studies have been conducted to determine the criteria for the most suitable locations in spatial planning. However, when examining studies conducted for hobby gardens, it has been observed that different parameters are taken into account. The aim of this study is to establish a standard for the most suitable location criteria for hobby gardens by considering the criteria used in previous studies. To achieve this, the Analytic Hierarchy Process AHP method was employed to determine the importance levels of the criteria, and the most suitable areas within the Karadeniz Technical University KTÜ campus were identified based on these criteria. Hobby gardens provide opportunities for individuals in urban areas to spend time in nature, reduce their stress, and engage in physical activities. Additionally, hobby gardens contribute to restoring the disrupted ecological balance by creating green spaces in cities. In this context, the first phase of the study involves defining the criteria to be used for selecting the ideal locations for hobby gardens, and the second phase identifies the most suitable areas within the KTÜ campus based on these criteria. Materials and Methods: In this study, suitability analyses were conducted using the Analytic Hierarchy Process AHP method, field observations, and Geographic Information Systems GIS based on the criteria determined. AHP simplifies complex decision-making problems into a hierarchical structure and allows for comparative evaluations based on this structure. The steps of the study are as follows: 1. Determination of Criteria: The criteria to be used in the suitability analysis for hobby gardens were identified. 2. Weighting of Criteria: The importance levels of the criteria determined based on expert opinions and literature reviews were weighted using the AHP method. 3. Area Analysis: Based on field observations within the KTÜ campus, four potential locations for hobby gardens were identified. Using GIS, analyses were conducted on these locations based on the criteria and their respective weights. 4. Evaluation of Results: The most suitable area was identified based on the data obtained. Results: The parameters obtained from the AHP analysis are as follows: soil texture 0.1741, soil depth 0.1574, aspect 0.1529, location 0.1042, slope 0.0974, landscape 0.0905, existing vegetation 0.0781, proximity to vehicle roads 0.0643, and area size 0.0599. According to these results, location I was found to be the most suitable area for a hobby garden. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that suitability analyses conducted using the AHP method are effective tools for identifying areas that meet environmental and social needs. The hobby garden areas identified within the KTÜ campus represent a significant step towards the health and well-being of the university community. This study can also serve as an example for other university campuses and urban planning projects.
