Özet:

This study aims to analyze Turkeys logistics performance in maritime transportation and to identify opportunities for sectoral development. Surrounded by seas on three sides and located along an intercontinental transit corridor, Turkey holds strategic potential in maritime logistics due to its advantageous geographical position. As the most frequently used mode of transportation in foreign trade, maritime transport offers a favorable outlook for Turkey, particularly in terms of port infrastructure and cargo handling efficiency. However, certain limitations persist in areas such as the scale of the merchant fleet, shipyard production capacity, and the absence of globally recognized logistics brands. Comparative analyses based on up-to-date data from G20 countries reveal that while Turkey demonstrates competitiveness in specific indicators, improvements are needed in shipbuilding, recycling operations, and port traffic frequency. Turkeys 38th place ranking in the 2023 Logistics Performance Index indicates that the country has not yet fully realized its potential. In this context, the study aims to contribute to enhancing Turkeys global competitiveness in maritime transportation and supporting its ambition to become a regional logistics hub through strategies focused on developing skilled human resources, fostering public-private sector collaboration, and promoting innovative solutions such as mobile port applications.
