Özet:

Lydia and Mysia, two significant ancient regions of Western Anatolia, have been in close cultural, economic and artistic contact since the early periods, as a result of being neighboring territories. Their political and military destinies were also shaped by parallel developments. Indeed, ancient sources mention that the inhabitants of Lydia and Mysia were sibling peoples and that their languages exhibited similar characteristics. The relations between the societies of these two regions can also be traced in sculptural works starting from the 6th century BC. Although the free-standing and relief sculptures of Lydia and Mysia initially stand out with distinct and original typological and iconographic featuresas a result of strong regional artistic traditionsthey nevertheless commonly depict the same mythological figures that imply similar cults, and the same figure types are often presented with comparable iconographic arrangements. The fact that similarities appear sometimes in works found in neighboring areas and other times in cities that are quite distant but located along known routes indicates that the relationship between the sculpture traditions of the two regions was not limited to specific areas. Technical and stylistic similarities are more pronounced in some works, which likely points to possible local workshops operating in both regions, as well as artists who worked across regional boundaries. Based on these findings, this study aims to outline the interactions between Lydian and Mysian sculpture, examining their similarities and differences through selected examples.
